Welcome to my bug pages

"Indeed, in no one of her works has Nature more fully displayed her exhaustless ingenuity," or so wrote Pliny the Elder about the world of bugs …and anyone named “Pliny” must know the story. Besides, he was an Elder! ‘Nuff said.

But here’s more: An insect is a cold-blooded organism that has six legs and three body segments. Insects as a group (class Insecta) are by far the largest group of organisms on earth. In fact, there are approximately 5,000 dragonfly species, 2,000 praying mantis, 20,000 grasshopper, 170,000 butterfly and moth, 120,000 fly, 82,000 true bug, 350,000 beetle, and 110,000 bee and ant species described to date.

OK, so some of the creatures on these pages aren’t actually insects. Maybe they’re arachnids (8 legs) or “true bugs” (what’s up with that??). Mostly, I like these pictures because they show nature’s craftwork. Without a camera, it is very hard to view these living oddities, and certainly not at the scale seen here. So please browse and I hope you enjoy your visit. If you’re interested in buying any of these images, please email me.

The goal for this site is to showcase and even celebrate the world of insect photography. Mostly I shoot flies, bees, moths, spiders--your typical yard stuff--but with an effort to show their portraits as perhaps they would like to be seen. If you're here--and obviously you are--you either appreciate and strange world of bugs or you share my passion for photography on the macro scale. We have a common thread, so let's party...

Note from Eric: So where's the pictures? At the moment, this website has a tutorial and some images to illustrate the topic. Within the next few weeks I'll be building out the images that are currently in the queue for posting.

To see all of my pictures, please go my Pbase website here to view my portfolio.

Here's a tutorial on how to shoot macros of bugs. Hope you enjoy!

Please contact me if you're interested in purchasing any of my images for private or commercial purpose. My prices are insanely reasonable.

Thanks,

Eric Delmar
